On March 24-25, 2025, UnitelmaSapienza and Luiss University will host the international conference “The Hybridization of the Fight Against Crime in the International Scenario: Comparative Law Findings from the 2022 PRIN Borderline.” The conference, part of the 2022 PRIN PNRR “BORDERLINE” project, will feature multiple thematic sessions focusing on asset confiscation, compliance measures, and punitive civil sanctions, and will bring together distinguished scholars from leading international institutions who have contributed to the comparative legal research carried out within the PRIN project.
The panel on asset confiscation, organized by UnitelmaSapienza (Heads of Research Unit: Prof. Vincenzo Mongillo), will feature Antonio Balsamo (Deputy Prosecutor General at the Italian Supreme Court), Katharina Beckemper (University of Leipzig), Valsamis Mitsilegas (University of Liverpool), Raphaële Parizot (University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne), and Gonzalo Quintero Olivares (University Rovira i Virgili).
The panel on compliance measures, hosted by the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (Heads of Research Unit: Prof. Gaetana Morgante), will include presentations by Barbara Boehler (Fordham University), Katrin Deckert (ANSA – National Association of French Joint Stock Companies), Costantino Grasso (University of Exeter), Adán Nieto Martín (University of Castilla-La Mancha), and Nicolas Rontchevsky (University of Strasbourg).
Luiss University (Heads of Research Unit and PI of the Project: Prof. Antonio Gullo) will host two sessions. The first will address punitive civil sanctions in European legal systems, with contributions from Jérémy Bourgais (University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne), Antonio Cardona Barber and Miriam Cugat-Mauri (Autonomous University of Barcelona), Damien Nippen and Martin Wassmer (University of Cologne). The second will focus on punitive damages and civil sanctions in common law systems, with presentations by Eleni Katsampouka (King’s College London) and Rafael Porrata-Doria (Temple University Beasley School of Law).
The conference will end with a roundtable discussion on the current state and future perspectives of hybrid measures in the Italian context, featuring contributions from PRIN post-doc research fellows: Maria Giovanna Brancati (UnitelmaSapienza), Roberta De Paolis (Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies), Ilaria Giugni (University of Naples Federico II), and Marco Mossa Verre (Luiss University).
